Region Northern Cape/Kalahari: Kalahari Hunting Reserve
This rare South African jewel spans 85,000 hectares in the Northern Cape Province, making it the largest private hunting concession in the country. The reserve is part of the Kalahari Desert (which means “great thirst” in Tswana), a vast basin of red sand stretching from the Orange River to Angola in the north, west to Namibia, and east to Botswana. Contrary to this arid landscape, however, the Kalahari Hunting Reserve is a hidden oasis for the most discerning hunter.
The private 5-star lodge features four large double rooms with private bathrooms and views of the beautiful landscape. Traditional three-course meals prepared by our chef are served in the dining/living area, which has a walkway to the swimming pool with a terrace. Special desert sundowners in the dunes are one of the highlights we offer our guests, along with horseback riding or professional massages.
In this landscape, you can find four of the “Big Five”: leopard, lion, Cape buffalo, and both black and white rhinos are abundant and can be hunted. In addition to the typical plains game for this area such as kudu, springbok, oryx, eland, and waterbuck, you can also find sable antelope, roan antelope, and nyala. Since we have no malaria infections, our own paved runway, and are only a 1.5-hour flight from Johannesburg, the Kalahari Hunting Reserve is one of the most exclusive hunting destinations in South Africa.
You fly to Johannesburg and then continue to Upington (UTN), where we will pick you up from the airport and take you to the reserve. Hunting is possible year-round. This lodge is also very suitable for families.
